Video: Google’s hilarious TV ad all but confirms the unreleased Nexus 6

Google mistakenly published a hilarious TV commercial on YouTube, Android Police reports, teasing its upcoming Android L-powered Nexus 6 phablet ahead of the phone’s official launch. And while the video was quickly removed, some users had already managed to grab it and reupload it to YouTube.

The short 30-second animation shows a few people standing in line at a bus stop, and all of them are variations of Google’s iconic Android robot. This could be a hint that Google dominates the smartphone business, at least by market share.

Then, a phone rings.

Without spoiling the ad (available below), we can tell you it’s Google’s rumored 5.9-inch Nexus handset that rings, and Google appears ready to embrace the fact that not all smartphone users appreciate big smartphone designs, but that many others might still be interested in buying a Nexus phablet.

The phone’s commercial name — whether it’s Nexus 6 or Nexus X — isn’t actually revealed, but it’s more than clear it’s a phablet that’s running Android L — just check out those navigation buttons, which are part of Google’s Material Design concept for Android L.

“All kinds of phones for all kinds of folks,” Google says at the end of the video. “Android. Be together. Not the same,” the company adds.

In addition to this commercial dedicated to the Nexus 6, Google also published and then pulled a couple of other short animated clip to promote the same message about Android — see them on this Reddit thread.

The company is expected to unveil the Nexus 9 tablet and Android L this week, but it’s not clear whether the Nexus 6 will be unveiled as well, or if it will launch at a later date.
