Your fingerprint will unlock every iPad and iPhone released this year

Apple’s 2014 iPad and iPhone models will all have fingerprint sensors embedded in the home button, a new report says, reaffirming what previous rumors have indicated. This time around cecb2b.com, a website dealing with component information, claims that TSMC has already produced the first batch of Touch ID sensors that will be included in iPhone 6, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 models.

The new fingerprint sensors are apparently assembled by TSMC subsidiaries Xintec and Suzhou Crystal Semiconductor. Previous reports have claimed that TSMC would start Touch ID sensor production at some point in the second quarter of the year, with some sources saying the company will use a new 12-inch fab processing method for the fingerprint sensors, and others saying that TSMC will continue to use the same 8-inch processing method that was used before for the iPhone 5s.

In addition to fingerprint sensors, TSMC will also be responsible for producing some of the A8 chips expected to be used inside this year’s new iOS devices.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in a recent note on Apple’s upcoming products that the company’s iPad Air 2 and new Retina iPad mini will both get Touch ID-ready home buttons.
