Samsung to unveil Galaxy Nexus on October 19th

Breaking

Samsung on Thursday sent out invitations to a press conference in Hong Kong where it is expected to unveil its Galaxy Nexus smartphone alongside Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The South Korea-based electronics giant has not made direct reference to the new smartphone, however a recent teaser video published by the vendor left little doubt that the third-generation Nexus smartphone would be the star of the show. Samsung was initially supposed to unveil the device at its Unpacked event during the CTIA Enterprise & Applications conference in San Diego, however the company canceled the event due to Apple co-Founder Steve Jobs’s untimely passing, which occurred just one week earlier. BGR has issued numerous exclusive reports regarding the Galaxy Nexus, the most recent of which painted a nearly complete picture of the phone’s key specs. Samsung’s event kicks off at 10:00 a.m. local time in Hong Kong, or 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time on October 18th.

Will galaxy s2 get ics on the same day the unpacked happens?

    • dahui

No, not at all. SGSII is already rooted though, so you can expect nightly/alpha builds of CM9 for it within a few weeks.

Should be an interesting unveil. With this coming just after iOS 5 has debuted and with QNX coming possibly the day before at DevCon, the new Android phones and OS has some serious competition. We shall see how well it fares.

      You serious?

      How was BBM this week?

      • Justin Lisenby

Yes, there was a major BlackBerry service outage this week; however, the coming QNX devices will not run off of these same servers and they will be a whole new breed of BlackBerry. Before you condemn BlackBerry for what’s coming why don’t you wait and actually see what they have planned. Have you ever though that maybe BlackBerry 7 came out half-assed because they were putting most of their efforts towards the future. QNX and BBX have been in development for a while now and they are poised to take RIM back up in the consumer market. Just wait till RIM reveals them next week and get back to me after that.

Maybe they shouldn’t have wasted their time an energy on that “play book” contraption.

Sorry, I was a long time BlackBerry fanboy, after BlackBerry 7 sucked ass and was laggy as SHIT and buggy as SHIT I lost all hope. I moved over to an iPhone 4S and I am never looking back, good luck with QNX man I do hope it does good because I would hate to see a good company die and lots of jobs lost because it is run by IDIOTS.

    Please come to AT&T!!!!!!!

It has passed the FCC with AT&T radios.  It may be exclusive to Verizon for a month.  Their version passed the FCC a month before AT&T’s.  Just a hunch.  Doesn’t matter.  Christmas, Hanukkah or whatever you celebrate will still be delightful.

The Nexus Prime with Ice Cream Sandwich was about two weeks too late to the party. If they would have announced it and made it available for preorder around the same time as the iPhone 4S there would be some decent competition. Now that a million plus people have already preordered the iPhone 4S, only the true Android fans that have been holding out for several months now are going to buy this.

    • Idioticcommentreader

Dude, you are dumb. Assume there are 50 million active iphones, 1 million pre-order to upgrade, that is 2% of total users.  Geez…they sure lost out to the party.  In addition, the 1 million sheep that pre-ordered are the ones that are buying the new Iphone just because they have to have the new iPhone, regardless of the fact it is a small upgrade from the Iphone 4.

Have you used an iPhone 4S? If not, I don’t think you’re someone we can trust to give a proper opinion on the level of upgrade it represents.

Also, over 1M preordered in 24hours… not total.

You know want I hope they do is: when they announce ICS I hope a week or 2 later it will be up for download. I wish they drop ICS for all device that can handle it and for OEM’s like: Htc,Samsung,Motorola give them the code so if they want to skin it they can but give us the choice if we want to keep stock Ice Cream Sandwich on our device or if later we want to put the OEM custom skin on it. I would love to see my Htc Evo with Stock Ice Cream Sandwich, giving me the option to have Htc’s version later IF I WANT IT. With this being a merge of tablet and mobile OS I really do hope they don’t skin it, but if they do give us the option. That way ICS will be available day one on all eligible devices and we won’t have to wait 6 months for it to release.

You and everyone else, but the handset manufacturers don’t want us removing their interface so easily, which is why I root and install ROMs as I see fit.

My command to Siri: Go Fack Yourself!

BGR’s sources are so unreliable. It’s already been confirmed by Samsung that this phone’s official name is “Nexus Prime”, why they keep on with “Galaxy Nexus” is beyond me. All the competitive websites(Engadget, Slashgear, etc.) reported this days ago and called BS on BGR’s source for specs as well. Sorry guys as much as you have dropped the ball in the past(cough cough…iPhone 5) I can’t believe shit you all say anymore. We’ll wait till Google announces it, in the meantime don’t overwork yourself guys cause all you manage to to is spread BS rumors.

    Bout damn time.

Lets see…so how accurate again was this guy who tried to malign Google and Samsung by claiming the reasons for cancelling last Tuesdays event was due to patents. Looks like that attempt to smear and impugn a noble gesture out of respect fell flat on its face with this new date just a week after.
