BlackBerry Bold 9930 now available from Verizon for $249.99 [updated]

mobile

Verizon Wireless is now offering RIM’s highly anticipated BlackBerry Bold 9930 smartphone for $249.99 on contract. BGR exclusively reported last week that Sprint would soon be selling the new touch-and-type Bold for $249.99, and at that time we indicated that other U.S. carriers would likely launch the device at the same price point. Verizon Wireless is now the first carrier to do so, and while early adopters are sure to snatch up the long-awaiting 9900/9930 despite its $250 price tag, widespread adoption may be hindered until the new smartphone dips to $199.99 on contract. We reviewed the new BlackBerry Bold last week and found that the hardware is absolutely worth carriers’ high cost of entry. We also found that RIM’s BlackBerry 7 software, despite improved performance and fluidity, left much to be desired.

UPDATE: Verizon Wireless’ full press release now follows below.

By the way, I just paîd $21.87 for an îPad 2-64GB and my boyfriend loves his Panasonîc Lumîx GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS.I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $657 which only cost me $62.81 to buy.
Here is the website we use to get it all from, http://BidsFirst.com

I’d like to know how these dipshits post this spam crap on every article.. yet I can’t post a hyperlink without it “being reviewed”?

      • GuestThatHates$20iPads.

Hahaha.. Well said. I hate those douchebag posts.

  • Cornbread

    This device rocks

    • Confused

I wonder when Apple is going to sue because it has rounded corners like an iPhone

  • Scott

If it had an i in front of it would you recommend it BGR?

    • Anonymous

Of course they would, then they would proceed to dry hump it ferociously

  • Emir ozmem

Come on att or tmobile or any gsm network!

    • http://rmbo47.myopenid.com/ rmbo47

They’re coming for the U.S. GSM carriers. The Canadian carriers have been selling them for a week now.

  • Caak616

I only paid $199.99 for both that I ordered.

  • Max

$249????? ROFLMAO. It will be $99 and BOGO in a week mark my words. I literally never ever see anyone using a BB these days. No kid would be caught with one theyd be laughed out of school. And they are the segment that spends spends spends.

    • iRideMaxsMom

speaking of BOGO, can you tell your mom to stop calling me, your sister is getting pissed.

      • Applesucksfatties

Don’t make fun of Max’s mom… she is the only female that he ever gets to see naked.   “Max… come up here and scrub my back”.

    • Applesucksfatties

Max.. did you hear they were casting for the 40 year old Virgin 2 movie?   I know you’d fit the part perfectly.

ps.  Who give a rats arse what a snot nosed 15 year old wants.  All they want to do is play games on their phone (hence the popularity of the iToy).  Leave the BlackBerry devices to the grown-ups…..

    • http://twitter.com/NICKVALENTIN0 Nick Valentino

      Unimportant people don’t use BlackBerrys.

    • Banofbros

They are the segment that spends and spends…. mommy and daddy’s money – But Mommy and Daddy buy THOUSANDS of Blackberries for their employees. Blackberries are for grownups and business professionals, they use their phones for WORK – they don’t spend all day rooting and downloading games.

    • Heya

Max, I guess it depends on what is most important in life.  You are what…12 years old?  Mayber 13?  My son (19 yrs old) and his girlfriend both use the Bold.  They really like it.  Cannot stand the iPhone and its crappy virtual keyboard.  Oh, and did I mention he’s made the Dean’s list every semester?  Yeah, that’s right, he’s a pretty smart kid and doesn’t really care what you and your hair-brained friends think of his phone.  Keep paying for the over hyped iPhone and hanging onto every word from Steve Jobs. That’ll make you successful in life.  Keep thinking it.

  • Anonymous

I’m sure it’s a decent phone, but why is it priced so high?

  • Anonymous

*Sounds of crickets and no one caring*

And if you listen really close, you can hear Mike and Jim weeping.

    • Applesucksfatties

Keep that thought in mind when the next couple quarterly earnings numbers are released.  RIM was still selling through year old phones and making money..  just wait until these new BB7 devices are released worldwide..

      • Anonymous

Through year old phones? Meh either way I don’t ever see RIM making a signifigant come back in the market. I could see Nokia making a bigger splash with all the new WP7 devices though. But what the hell do I know, I am just a guy surfing forums. Perhaps QNX could be the savior Rim so desperatley needs. I just find it unlikely.

    • Heya

Jim Balsillie is a flat out liar.  I purchased the Playbook in April after hearing him, the friggin President of RIM, state the the email and contacts apps were no more than 60 days away.  Here we are in September and…nothing!  With that said, the new Bold looks to be very promising for those that demand a physical keyboard.  And although I do like the Playbook (I maintain the iPad is THE most over hyped product in U.S. history – period), Balsillie is a joke and needs to go.

  • Anonymous

I ordered mine this morning. I’m forced to use them through work and the Tour is the worst Blackberry I have ever used.

  • Al

If RIM made a phone that printed its own money I wouldn’t make the switch, let alone drop $250 on this POS.

    • Applesucksfatties

Good job Al…  now get back to downloading fart apps on your iPhone.

    • Ieon

      Yeah, that makes sense.  Sure.

  • Pragmatist

    Highly anticipated?

    • Anonymous

Yep, they are a lot if us that don’t want Android or iOS and actually *GASP* LIKE BLACKBERRY! Shocking, I know, that people don’t all have to the be same and carry the same smartphone! *rolls eyes*

      • http://rmbo47.myopenid.com/ rmbo47

Count me in the second Sprint releases the 9930. I hear it’s next week for Sprint.

  • BernieMadoff

Yea I’m surprised this didn’t launch first on AT&T&T-Mobile. BB has ususally been alot closer with AT&T than any other carrier. How times have changed. $250 today $150 tomorrow.

    • Anonymous

AT&T is holding off till November so they can push their exclusive Torch 9810 instead.

      • Applesucksfatties

        Again.. what a joke!!

    • Applesucksfatties

AT&T is a bunch of f*cking idiots for holding out on selling this device until November.  I hope all of the BlackBerry diehards jump ship from AT&T to Verizon or Sprint.. or just go buy an unlocked Rogers or Bell device.   NOTE TO AT&T – you are stupid for not selling the 9900 shortly after you release the 9810…  totally different customer base.. and those that truly know anything about phones won’t buy the 9810 if they want the 9900.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=506195779 Bryan Pizzuti

Once the price comes down this will sell reasonably. But no better than that.

  • http://twitter.com/JoshuaPingley Joshua Pingley

$250 for a device with a stale OS, only 6GB of usable storage, and 188MB of app memory. That is a bit of a joke…. But the hardware looks good.

    • Joshua’s dad

It’s funny, because in your avatar you look like your waiting for a guy to spunk on your face

    • Applesucksfatties

Joshie.. take the sports bra off and look at the response I sent you last week.   32 gb micro SD cards are approx $50.    You can get a Bold 9900 w/ approx 40 GB of storage for $250-$300.  How much is the 32 GB i4?   Also, most apps are less than 2 MB.. so you can store many more apps in the 188MB of RAM than you could on that same space in an iPhone..

  • Anonymous

I will deffinetly pick one of these up when they fall to a more reasonable price. I wonder if RIM is somehow trying to offset their prices due to low market demand currently. Ehh.. I’ll bite for the 149-199 price point though. Really looking forward to this device actually.

  • WTF?

THey have got to be kidding! $250!? Priced higher than iPhone. WTH is RIM thinking?!

    • J-ROCK

anyone know if these are in stores yet?

    • Anonymous

      RIM doesn’t determine carrier pricing…

  • Anonymous

That is very competative price, but it will get cheaper.

  • Bradfordms

Some things to keep in mind, for the obviously young and uninformed types who post ignorant rants:
    - RIM was making “smartphones” long before Apple and Google and had the market cornered for quite a while
    - Large corporations and governments have long preferred these devices due to their end-to-end encryption abilities and their extensive library of security and user policies.
    - BlackBerry devices were designed for email/calendar/contact sync and still do this better than anyone else
    - I’m not sure how OS v7 is considered “stale”, since it is a brand-new iteration
    - Not everyone who shops for a new device is 17 years old and worried about looking uncool.  Some people shop based upon security, platform maturity, etc.  I’m not worried about the megapixel count of the camera or how my junk will look when I sext it to my boyfriend.
RIM has lost market share due to poor decision making and lack of thoughtul product innovation, but it is still the preferred platform for many enterprises.  I have a BB for work and an iPhone 4 for personal use and don’t feel the need to get behind one platform while bashing another.  Grow up.

    • Applesucksfatties

      Well said.. thank you!!

    • Anonymous

You do realize that the Blackberry’s largest market these days is teens making your whole trollish comment misguided at best, right?

      • Bradfordms

Not in the United States, it isn’t.

      • Keith

Actually outside of corporate America, the group that purchases Blackberries the most are teens. Minorities at that.

    • Rjmjr72

Im glad to see them go back to a bold 9000 size and feel, one of the best PHONES i ever owned and wished back then it was touch screen..web browser stunk but a great feel and actual phone..i will give my wife my I4 tomorrow when my 9930 arrives if i like it..i miss that best in class keyboard! improved browser will be great for the light browsing i do.. i have a ipad2 i take for leisure when i travel so i really do not need  a super media device. i wouldnt read to much into half the comments on these boards.. people posting garbage and rude comments are nothing new on BGR. no accountability..

  • Anonymous

I called VZW and they said that they would give the phones to me for $200 each, plus my $100 upgrade discount.  That’s $150 each…. not bad.

  • Sam

Why does all of Blackberry’s phones look the same?

    • Anonymous

Why do all iPhones look the same? why do all HTC phones look the same?  Why do all toilets look the same?

    • Applesucksfatties

Why do all stupid people ask this question?  Ever seen an iPhone?  Pretty much all look the same.. right?

  • Keith

If this phone was 4G, I’d be on it in a heartbeat. Oh well.
