Facebook to compete with Groupon with 'Deals on Facebook'

General

In November, Facebook announced its new “Deals” platform that allows users to check-in to various local businesses for discounts. On Tuesday, the social network announced that it’s taking that idea one step further with its new “Deals on Facebook” service — which is currently being tested in Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, San Diego, and San Francisco. Using the Deals on Facebook, friends will be able to see local specials — such as concerts or group discounts at restaurants – and buy them directly from the social network. While we definitely see this service competing head-to-head with similar services from Groupon and Living Social, Facebook has teamed up with a number of partners, including aDealio, Gilt City, HomeRun, kgb deals, OpenTable, Plum District, PopSugar City, ReachLocal, Tippr, viagogo, and zozi for a more robust offering. If you’re in one of Facebook’s beta markets, hit up http://www.facebook.com/deals for more info.

Well, the current lawsuit just might do that, or at least make Zuckerberg give up 1/2 his ownership. He’s such a sham.

What is this Facebook of which you speak? Seriously, my wife uses it to keep up with her “friends” (people she secretly despises in real life but is all kissy-huggy with in cyberspace), but I have never even used it once.

Can that Facebook guy not brush his teeth? Dang, they look orange. Facebook needs to generate him some more cash so he can buy toothpaste and some whitening.

Ok, can someone please explain to me how Facebook is anything more than a place to share pictures and send messages to people you have lost contact information to, and possibly network.

The second they start selling data excessively, go public, or get annoying through advertising or offers, people are going to dump it as fast as they adopted it ..

      I’m already to that point.

GroupOn’s rejection of Google’s $6 billion offer was rather foolish considering there is nothing proprietary about their idea. Now they are going to have to compete with Facebook and their much larger installed client base. It’s nice to believe in your company, but it also helps to be rational.

GroupOn’s rejection of Google’s $6 1000000000 request was rather wacky considering there is cipher proprietary almost their thought. Now they are achievement to somebody to vie with Facebook and their untold larger installed computer store. It’s nice to anticipate in your accompany, but it also helps to be mental.

I find no use for Groupon – maybe it’s the lack of offers in my area.

The only Groupon in my area is for a $10 to buy the coupon and I get $15 worth of food at a specific restaurant. So I save $5…

If you saw the only restaurant registered, you wouldn’t want to go there in the first place…

So I opened up Groupons to a major city, say Toronto – which is 5th largest behind Chicago, LA, NYC and Mexico City respectively. You would think there would be plenty of offers. There were 5 offers…FAIL!
