The Daily Show celebrates iPhone’s liberation from AT&T [video]

mobile

In typical Daily Show fashion, Jon Stewart and friends celebrated the arrival of the Verizon iPhone with a hilarious segment Tuesday night. In a seven-minute spot that goes from funny to funnier, Stewart begins by recounting iPhone users’ hardships on AT&T. ”For the past three or four years, those of us in the iPhone community have sacrificed one thing for the ability to carry around every photograph we’ve ever taken, or song we’ve ever listened to, or home video, or compass,” Stewart said at the start of the segment. “We have sacrificed the ability to make phone calls.” Things were so bad for Stewart, it seems, that he had to send text messages by typing them out on his iPhone 4 and then having an assistant physically bring the phone to the message’s recipient. Daily Show correspondent John Oliver then joins in, reporting live via video chat from yesterday’s Verizon event using his AT&T iPhone. Needless to say, the quality is horrible and the video call drops several times. Oliver’s subsequent report has him hitting the streets to interview AT&T iPhone users — one of whom compares being tied to AT&T to slavery — and he then sits in on the actual announcement at Lincoln Center. Hit the jump for the full video.

its because people think oooh iPhone will work perfect on the Vzn network oooh omg. Wait till you share the network with Droid users and the iPhone. You will then see how the network will start slowing down because of so many smartphone users.

Its not the carrier issue, its more of the device that keeps dropping the calls. The iPhone is more made as a toy device and not really a calling feature for the phone.

Give it 6 months for the iPhone users with vzn then talk crap from then to see if the phone sucks on the network.

I don’t know why people hates on At&t. I’ve been a customer since 04 and had my ups and down with it service but nothing to complain about. Everybody has problems with there service providers. I know Verizon in my area is horrible, Sprint as well. Its not always service sometime its the area where you at.

I didn’t expect the skit to be that funny. Hilarious.

What was funny about it? Stewart is not funny ever, and that skit was unwatchable. Not everyone possesses the ability to sense humor. There is very little humor in this.

Hmm, AT&T fan, eh? What did you do, just sign a two-year agreement with them that you can’t get out of? Jealous much?

Ever since the iPhone made it’s debut, people have been bashing AT&T for it’s network, but why don’t we hear about other smart phones that AT&T carries, I think it’s the iPhone itself that is the issue, antenna problem, it’s the hardware that’s the issue, hopefully apple fixed that because now that’s going on verizon, what or who are they going to blame, xeroxing network too or is it just a poor designed phone?

i still think its funny in the artical it says how the video chat drops the calls and is terrible. Do you people not understand that has nothing to do with at&t right? In order to facetime you are required to be connected to wifi. Wifi has nothing to do with the service you get from at&ts towers. I myself have 2 phones with at&t and do not drop calls. That tells me one thing its the devices not the network. Can’t wait to hear of poor quality issues with verizon iphone then what apple will blame verizon too. Do yourself a favor and get a normal phone that doesn’t cost as much on data and do the same except all the fart apps. Use your money to buy silver and gold instead. Our dollar won’t be worth much in a few months if congress doesn’t raise americans debit ceiling.(google it if you don’t follow what the treasury dept is up too.)

that was amazing…….. unfortunate as it may seem… at&t totally deserves all the bad press it receives. they have/had the money ages ago to double or even triple the backhaul for their 3g network but instead they focused more on padding their execs and shareholders wallets.

all that to say that although verizon FINALLY has the iPhone, from a technological standpoint at&t will still have the superior device

LMFAO!!! Good Video Guys!! I couldn’t ever figure out why the service had to be so choppy in the city also??

How soft Americans must look to the rest of the world. People crying about being in slavery because a phone they “choose” to carry can’t make calls. lol. There are people dying from real tyranny, slavery, and oppression in the rest of the world. lol

  • Mort Justcan

At lease 60% of At&t users will not change over to verizon. And better phones I don’t think so. I like my iPhones. There ios is way better and solid then the other os’s out there.
