Dual-core Samsung Galaxy 2 to succeed Galaxy S in Q1 2011

mobile

Ever-connected insider Eldar Murtazin spent some time playing with two unreleased smartphones this weekend. The first was a prototype of Sony Ericsson’s upcoming Anzu, which will reportedly launch as the Xperia X12. The second, perhaps more interesting device was Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S successor. According to Murtazin, the Galaxy 2 features a dual-core processor and an impressive Super-AMOLED display. He claims it will launch some time in the first quarter of 2011. It is possible that Galaxy 2, known also as the Samsung i9100, could be Samsung’s own version of the Nexus S the company is building for Google — in the same way HTC released the Desire after building Google’s Nexus One. Since no one wants to buy phones directly from Google, we can only hope Samsung spreads out the dual-core Galaxy 2 as well as it did with the Galaxy S, which is currently offered by each of the four major carriers in the U.S.

    Very cool!

Once again, DROID prevails. My DROID Fascinate is really getting long in the tooth since it was released all the way back in September. I’d also like to see DROID OS 2.2 so hopefully this will have that or even 2.3 I’ll get the DROID Galaxy 3 for DROID 3.0 so it’s no big deal. Q1 can’t come soon enough!

Nexus S is launching at Best Buy on Black Friday!

GPS probably STILL won’t work. No confidence here, Samsung, until you get Galaxy 1 working like it should.

      Mine works fine. Fascinate user.

Mine also does. In fact DROID DOES. All VZW DROIDS DOES. It’s as simple as that.

    • MyPhoneCaptivates

      Mine doesn’t but cognition helps – kinda….

Okay, taking bets that the Samsung i9100 is going to release with Froyo 2.2 instead of Gingerbread!

Probably. And they probably will put that wonderful bloatware Touch Wiz on it so that it can never be upgraded like the behold2. They really need to stop wizzing on their phones, they would really be great other than that. Well that and get the gps working,……. and improve the signal reception. But other than than, I am sure it will be great. I wonder how they will dissapate all the heat that the dual core processor is going to throw off in such a contained space?

Nice backwards S on your photo guys…

      It’s supposed to look like a two…

I bought my phone directly through Google, and nearly a year later, at most, I’ve only been tempted by other phones on the market.

  • Big Papi

Me and my wife still love our Nexus 1s and we’ll continue to support. I have the Vibrant and its the most beautiful screen, but I wish Samsung adopted the same build quality of a BB or HTC

    Come On Verizon!!!!!!!!

  • Controlledtempo

So samsung is geting ride of the one in nexus and making it a S and now getting rid of the S in the galaxy line and making it a 2??

Norm makes me laugh out loud. Half the stuff he jokes about is true, the other half is bs. It’s all funny as hell though. Rock on Norm! ~ Sent from my EVO 4G : )

      You must be new though.
It was laughable 2 months ago, but after the same paragraph, every post, every day IT STARTS TO GET OLD!!!!!
      GET A NEW BIT!!!!!!!

I have lost faith in Samsung! My Fascinate is on 2.1 while every other Android device is running 2.2 with 2.3 right around the corner. Their support downright suxxxx! And now their talking about a Galaxy replacement, when the first hasn’t even revieved what it should have dropped with in the first place…Froyo!

      Amen to that! HTC FTW!

  • Rbmccaslin

Lol “super impressive super amoled screen”
I’m sure it shows colors great, as long as that color is blue. lol

    • Anonymous

well try using your AMOLED N1 in direct sunlight and lemme know how you make out….thats what the super amoled fixed not just vibrant colors

  • Magicdroid

No thanks, I’ll be buying directly from Google this time!

    • Anonymous

nah I will take it from my provider

This is what i been complaining about is the specs for the N2 or NS or whatever the hell the name is. now the specs are correct probably going to be the 1st phone offered with a Dual-Core chip, supposedly it has a 8MP camera I think the rom should be between 600-700. but I am definitley going to get one of these phones hopefully sprint gets it but i could care less what carrier gets it I am buying that phone no matter what.

  • Dj

Still happy with my DX. Don’t see that changing anytime soon.

  • Eevans18

i JUST bought my galaxy S a month ago and now another better one is already coming out? I hate this Android crap

  • Always Cool

@ Eevans18 – Don’t even bother with the next Samsung Galaxy 2, in a few months after it gets released, Samsung will release the Galaxy 3 with quad-core processor, a 4.5 inches super-duper-extra-galactic AMOLED with x-ray capabiolity, and a plethora of other esoteric features that won’t work either.

Then after that one gets released (!), there will be another one, then another, and so on, every 90 days. That’s the way Samsung operates. It puts out plasticky junk, loaded with futuristic “features” that don’t work in real life, for those who always want to have the latest of the latest, even if they have to donate it to the Salvation Army two after they bought it, because they can’t stand dealing with the buggy crap.

  • doublejizzle

Looks good, but I have had a Samsung WinMo phone, and i know how they never bother updating and fixing bugs. No thanks. Still rocking the OG Droid 1 and doing fine. Maybe a Droid X in the future, but other than that, i am good.

  • wekebu

What size display? Has the gps problem ever been resolved? I had the Captivate and tried everything recommended at xda but never got the gps working for more than a few seconds.

  • wekebu

Ps, I’ve had the EVO for 3 months and I absolutely love this phone. Android phones are The Best!
