LG Ally specs begin to surface

General

lg-ally

If you have been dying to know more about the Iron Man 2 tie-in LG Ally but were left sorely disappointed by its spec-less official announcement, then this is your lucky day. Thanks to a new teaser site from LG, we have a much better idea about the phone Running Android 2.1, the Ally is equipped with a 3.2″ touchscreen display, sliding QWERTY keypad, 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Anyone planning to pick up the phone Tony Stark is pimping come May 20th on “America’s most reliable network”?

Thanks, Ned!

  • let’s hope they market the shit out of this one. get a few more non-tech-blog-visiting-frequenters using android.

    • nickk

Yeah, remember the Versa? It had a cameo in a Transformer’s ad… that was a huge flop.

  • Scorpeo

“3.2 megapixel camera.” Is that a typo?!

    • man united

NO, That’s not a typo. 3.2 MP camera. disappointment

      • WantToLoveAndroid

Megapixels don’t mean much by themselves. You can have a 3.2 MP camera that takes much better pictures than, say, a 8.0 MP camera. In devices with very small lens aperture such as mobile devices, pixel size is usually key. The larger the pixel, the more light it can sense which results in a better looking image. Image sensors typically occupy the same physical area, so the lower MP camera typically has a larger surface area per pixel.

      • yeah!

It’s nice to hear the rare bit of logic around here regarding cameras! :)

More pixels does NOT mean better pics! Especially in lower light situations. The more pixels they pack in the tiny sensors, the worse the lower light pictures are getting.

You have to think of each pixel like a bucket, with the light being like water. The more light (water), the better the better the performance, especially when you aren’t taking pics in direct sunlight.

As the pixel count increases, this bucket shrinks, holding less and less.. so the quality goes DOWN.

I would much rather have a 3.2 megapixel camera that has good optics than an 8mp.

exactly… case in point… how the Incredible’s 8MP camera SUCKS compared with the Nexus’ 5MP cam…

        @WantToLoveAndroid

        Bravo.

Too many people worry so much about raw stats as opposed to what really matters.

      • ray

Im mad at the camera because no 3.2 camera records hd video, thanks verizon, they will never have two great phones at once, just one, and the incredible is not what i want, look at att theyre going to have the galaxy s and the new iphone(all logic says so, so its 80% a positive theyll have it), verizon sucks

  • girkin

    LGE. Garbage.

    Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone).

  • Johnny

Ok so let me get this right….Tony stark uses a phone
with a 3.2″ touch screen and a 3.2MP camera. Real tech
    forward……..NOT.

  • Johnny

It’s not so much about the camera for me, it’s the
3.2in screen. Plus we don’t even know what CPU is
    in this phone.

    • SKINNI

I AGREE. I HELD OFF 3 DAYS ON GETTING THE INCREDIBLE UNTIL I HEARD THE SCREEN WAS 3.2 INCHES. 3.7 WAS NO IMPROVEMENT OVER MY DROID BUT I FOLDED SINCE I ONLY SPENT $64 OUT OF POCKET. IM JUST READY TO SEE A 4.3 INCHER FOR BIG RED (RUNNING 2.1 OFCOURSE).

FROM WHAT IVE READ, ITS A SNAPDRAGON BTW.

      • Mr. Anderson

        but why are you yelling?

  • penetrode

Looks like a blackberry storm 1 or better know as the year 2008

    • SKINNI

LOL YEA I THOUGHT THE SAME AT FIRST VIEW

      • webby

        still yelling I see …

      • SKINNI

NA JUST STILL REPLYING IN ALL CAPS

    Sounds like the Moment.

LG + Verizon = 12 phone replacements in 4 months

    • kirk

thats funny, I am very skeptical of LG’s right now. I have run into a LG smartphone before and was wholefully unimpressed. Also LG has a good track record, except for the past few years. It seems to me that the quality of LG products have dropped. They dont even do low end devices very well anymore. By the by, LG has a new washing machine out!

  • ZPrime

Holy crap, physical send / end buttons. That’s nearly enough to get me excited. No clue why Android phones skip this.

  • TypicalAndroidFanboyDBAG

STILL BETTER THAN THE IPHONE. APPLE SUCKS. DROIDZZZZZZZ FTW!!!!!!!

  • jimbob0789

Wow this is a let down where is the ahola cuz this is a competelly differnet phone

  • stix26

Had a change to play with the phone. it is straight up 2.1 like the N1 with 5 home screens etc. it is a good phone for entry level smartphone users. The phone is about as fast as the eris. so its not going to be in competition with the Droid or Incredible. There is not reason to release 2 phones within a month with the same processor. this way people like my mom who don’t want to pay for a 200$ phone can get a really good phone for less.

  • Robfactory

It looks a bit like a BB.

  • JoeBold

what? with the ‘incredible’ at the door, why would you even go in?

  • 1967LS2

Why would anyone even want this phone? Incredible all the way…

  • JFA

Not a bad phone for the crowd its aimed at. I think it’ll do just fine.

Verizon has 2 beasts, The Droid and The Droid Incredible for us tech geeks; but they also have 2 mid-range phones the Droid Eris, and this Ally.

    • JFA

I kind of forgot they have the Moto Devour as well. They’re line-up isn’t that bad, if you ask me.

  • Ag

Huumm./. 5 home screens? Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t iPhone has 11 home screen and with the new update comming u can have put 2100 app. Not that u need all that but tell how many apps can u fit on the incredible?

    • Mr. Anderson

i read something about the incred having unlimited homescreens. something to do w/ Sense.

      • Mr. Anderson

ah yes. they’re called scenes, & u can have as many as u want + the seven screens it comes with.

  • hemdroid

Any word on if this is a resistive or capacitive touch screen?

    • hemdroid

      Found more info… it’s capacitive.

  • MikeD

Looks like it belongs in the family of Blackberry Storm phones.

The specs once official will determine if it will sell among the bleeding edge technology freaks. The price will determine if it can draw a lot of dumb phone users up to a smartphone.

So far it looks like a decent device.

  • Brad

Looks like this is the dumbed-down version of the HTC Droid Eris, which is being discontinued. No CPU spec yet, but with stock Android and a lousy 3.2″ screen, I will be surprised if this thing has anything much faster than the old Qualcomm 528MHz processor. I did hear rumblings of a 600MHz processor somewhere, but if it’s anything other than an underclocked Snapdragon chip, it’s pointless. Nobody wants slow computers or slow phones. Hmm, just four more months before I’m eligible for upgrade from my Eris. Can’t wait to get my hands on the Incredible, or whatever else trumps it by then. I kind of doubt anything will take its place on Verizon for a while though.

  • Android Guru

This phone sounds like it sucks already. 3.2″ screen??? Thats smaller than my old G1!!! LG must have woken up in that “Hot Tub Time Machine”!! No thanks LG! Let me know when you step into 2010….

  • rehnhart

I’m not really worried about the camera, I have a 3mp now on my phone, it does ok. I want to know the offical word on the processor. Is it going to be a Snapdragon or something else and lower speed?

  • http://www.socialmediaseo.net Josh Uhlemeyer
  • Tyler McNeely

Is there any news on if this phone will have a virtual qwerty keyboard (landscape AND portrait)? If not either the Droid or the Incredible will be my next phones for upgrade.
