HTC Supersonic to hit Sprint with WiMAX on board?

Rumor

sprint-htc-logo

A few weeks ago, we saw the HTC A9292 makes its debut on a leaked Sprint inventory list. Dubbed a WiMAX candybar, the A9292 is rumored to be the HTC Supersonic, an Android-powered beast with specs worthy of its codename. The Supersonic was tipped to include a 4.3-inch LCD display, Android 2.1 with Sense UI, WiMAX connectivity, a kickstand on the back like the Verizon Wireless Imagio, and, though Snapdragon is not confirmed, it is reportedly Snapdragon fast. The Supersonic’s software is reportedly still buggy so a launch date is assumed to be a little ways off. Though it’s a time frame that fits nicely with Clear’s projected  2H 2010 launch window for the first 4G-enabled smartphones to hit.

U be hating on Sprint cause u niggas wish you had our dope towers

Verizon has no service anywhere and borrows our motha fuckin towers beeyatches

Motha fuckin caps be busted in ur ass and your baby gonna get mother fucked

    • Z-liberator

Does your momma know you are playing with the computer?

    • 110609

Your only making Sprint customers look really bad here.

      • Hank

And the Verizon fan boys post like their saints?

      • AuburnTiger

Wow well, I don’t even understand why people remain ‘fans’ of any carrier. I go where the best deals and phones are.. no animosity towards anyone. This isn’t a sports team for Christ’s sake, it just a god damned cellular carrier than sends signal to your cell phone.

      • Z-liberator

Finally somebody with sense! Some of these carrier fanboys are morons!

      • MotoRider

nice, i do the same thing, i go where the best deal is. currently i’m on att which is nice but is getting a little expensive with 4 phones, 4 data plans, and 4000 minutes. i did the math and sprint seems to be the most economical choice and will probably switch unless att can do a similar pricing.

      • defiant

I believe that when the carriers force people into 2 year contracts people “have” to be fan boys because they can’t go anywhere else. and hence the “my carrier is the best (because I have to pay hella ETF to switch to yours)”

    • The Man

      Oh how I love ignorance

  • lembowski

I would move to Sprint for this. With my 20% work discount I would get the any moble plan with insurance/taxes for $66.00/per. Hopefully they price the 4g data close to the 3g. I wonder if you get to choose 4g or 3g when you buy a phone that does both.

  • Miguel Alvarez

This is big news. I really like it. Can’t wait for some pics and detail. Go WiMAX!!

    • jackson Reilly

This is HILARIOUS!!! I couldnt believe real miguel would say this. He has a hatred towards wimaz for some reason. I dont quite get it

  • Dan

You can always tell how good the news on a Sprint relaited story is by the comments! All the VZW fangirls get their panties in a bunch and then make fake posts as Sprint customer/employees like “Sprint4Life” did. I never understood why you waste time posting since Sprint is so beneath you? Did they sleep with your girl or are just that big of a tool?

  • betchplz

WiMAX is still fail for me until they triple the amount of towers they have. We’re talking 1-0 bars inside of any structure that isn’t .3 miles away from a CLEAR tower.

  • Z-liberator

It Sounds like good news for now, but this phone is coming out 4th quarter when Android phones should be running 1.5GHZ. Not impressed however if they bump the processor to 1.5+ I am ditching the Hero it will be upgrade time!

  • SprintSucker

Sprint’s going to need all the help they can get. I’m not sure if there exists enough nerds willing to get this phone. As it is only the nerds care or know what 4G is.

When the new iPhone drops mid year we all know Sprint will be in a whole new world of hurt. Not sure how much longer they can last?

  • Ryan

Sprint and VZW coverage where i live (ohio) are damn near the same. I been with sprint for 8 years and my parents got VZW and i aint heard nothin bad bout coverage on either side. VZW is bustin heads for their plans. I been patiently waitin on sprint to come through and I admit VZW got better phones right now but when that supersonic hits, its gon be lights out for VZW because sprint got cheaper plans.

    • SprintSucker

That would Sprint said when they launched the Samsung Instinct

  • Dan

Let me guess miguel…you are the tool posting as Sprint4Life? Did you also post as Backbeat a year or so ago. Another sad soul that lived on BGR because he had nothing more productive to do? I really feel sorry for people like you. I use Gillette razors so with your stupid fucking thought process I must cheat on my wife with 13 mistresses since. I also have DishNetwork and AT&T dls so what does that say about me since they are my other providers/carriers? I’m sorry that the fact that I choose the ones that saves me the most money makes up upset…though I don’t understand why you care so much.

Anyway….would love to see a “Pro” version of the supersonic with a tilt slider like the tp2. Just not big on only having a virtual keyboard.

  • hmmm

Bad ass sounding phone. And damn people its a MOBILE phone. They all drop calls, they all don’t have perfect signal everywhere u go! Vzw is better some places and sprint is better in some places. Give it a rest already. ” My carrier is better than yours” blah blah blah. You sound like a bunch of little bickering about who’s got a better collection of GI joe toys. Damn! Grow up!!!

  • triu426

Wow…people loyal to their carriers are funny…lmao

  • bob a

nothing but incompetence in Sprint hq that’s for sure

  • 3 Phones Jugglin

Will they ever make a phone like that with a Qwerty Keyboard? I dont wanna go back to an all touchscreen (For Texting purposes) once you burn out the screen, your ass out.

  • RandyACE

This is the phone we all were hoping the Nexus/Passion/Bravo would be, but with the timeline of this relese something comparable will be out for VZW for sure. …..Moto Shadow sounds pretty sick if it is real. Good for Sprint, I got no hate, they need a top of the line Android with VZW having the Droid and T-Mob the Nexus. It forces the other carriers to push for something comparable. Good for Sprint!

  • jen

The device will be similar to the HTC HD2 and equipped with 4.3-inch display and fast processor (that still remains unknown) integrated into a really thin body.
.The HTC Supersonic will be running Android 2.1 and HTC Sense interface. More details: http://bit.ly/htc-supersonic-details

  • HEARtS

amm….welll the phone looks beast mode im off contract but just couldnt see myself with sprint On to the next 1 i guess
xperia?..3G+? that new droid thingy? who knows..

  • Jason

Looks like it’s true, the Supersonic is coming and Sprint’s trying to be all non committal about it: http://kroycom.com/blog/marketing-with-kroy/marketing-response-on-htc-supersonic-from-sprint-reveals

  • saywhat

    @ miguel alvarez

“My point is that of “AuburnTiger’s” above. It’s a fucking cell phone that receives service from a company who takes your resources (in Sprint’s case, takes them thru the Federal Bailout Program as well). Period! In fact, your point is my point, cheerleading any vendor is the pinnacle of stupidity.”

If this is your belief then why do you come on this website and post everyday? For someone who is not that concerned you sure take an active interest in what every carrier is doing.

  • saywhat

I have visited this site for quite awhile as a reader and to me it seems that although you are not a “cheerleader” as you like to say of any specific carrier, but you are rather an “instigator” who likes to instigate fights with other posters by putting down their carrier of choice (especially the Sprint Trolls as you like to call them). Thus to me it seems as though you play a big part in firing up the crappy posters who really have nothing to say but come back at you and it seems as though you really enjoy it because you keep coming back to respond to their every post against you.

I agree with you that this is a great site for news, but as far as reading the posts that to me is just pure entertainment.

  • saywhat

But i gotta ask, who are you to try and stop this? If its been going on for the last year then what your doing is not working. Instead these same jerks are coming back to see if they can rile you up and its working because you continue to answer their every post which helps keep them entertained.

As far as this site going under, there are plenty more sites out there that provide the same information (sometimes alot sooner than BGR) that BGR does. To me it sounds like you have some type of vested interest in this site. Is this true?

  • saywhat

Your proving your point quite clearly. You get defensive anytime someone questions something you dont like. And your comment of:

“The 4G tab, under ‘Hot Topics’, might just be an indication to who the real SINNERS are and ‘why’ they exi$t. They feel entitles to insult any readers’ intelligence with propaganda and flat-out lies.”

WOW! calling people sinners for having a link to a carrier site? Dude, you need to chill the hell out. You are sounding like a psycho ex-girlfriend who feels like everyone is always out to get them. You got some issue man.

  • COCOViper

    *sigh*

Except Clear is not Sprint. The two organizations are managing their device portfolios separately despite Clear being a subsidiary of Sprint.

Clear has several devices Sprint doesn’t carry (i.e. the Samsung Mondi) and Sprint has several devices Clear doesn’t carry (the Overdrive and their 3G/4G cards).

All we know by that timeframe is that CLEAR won’t have it until the end of the year. That says nothing about Sprint having it sooner.

  • COCOViper

Given that you ignored everything I said in my post I’m starting to wonder about your reading comprehension.

I specifically stated that Sprint and Clearwire are managing their device portfolios separately even though Clear is owned by Sprint.

End of story? Hardly. Now proceed to call me a troll and use a bunch of $-signs in your reply. Might as well call me toothless as well while you’re at it.

  • tcbrought

what is clear, i live in atlanta and i have heard of it. but do i need to buy a separate service to get 4g on sprint phones
