Nokia 3710a, Nokia RM-511 and Motorola Morrison are FCC approved, headed for T-Mobile

Rumor

T-Mobile might not be the fastest draw in the West but that won’t stop manufacturers from sprinkling some 3G dust on Tmo-bound handsets any time soon. In fact, three such phones just pushed their way through the FCC approval process and one is of particular interest — but we’ll get there. Let’s start with the fugly flip phone seen above. Reemphasizing our point that LG shouldn’t be tarnishing the Viewty name with a 2 megapixel shooter, this entry level handset from Nokia features a clam shell form factor, a 3.2 megapixel camera with an LED flash, AWS 3G and not much else to speak of. The second handset is also of Nokia pedigree, though nothing is known for the time being beyond the RM-511 model number, clam shell form and the presence of AWS. Last up, and of interest as we mentioned above, is the Motorola T56KV1 — which we know to be the Morrison. “How,” you might ask? Well, it already passed through the FCC back in July. We suspect that new documentation tied to July’s tests has just had its confidentiality lifted ahead of a likely announcement next week, hence the new round of excitement. In any event, 3G-hungry Tmo subscribers will apparently have three new options in the coming months, and options are never a bad thing.

Their 3G speeds are excellent in SoCal using HTC’s myTouch. That network should cover nearly 208 million POPS by years end.

For a phone, websites open very snappy and media (videos / streaming music) play well.

Their going to push HSPA + and grow capacity early next year so speeds such increase and the user experience should improve. I would anticipate that they cover the majority (if not all) of their native network with 3G by next year too in prep for future 4G rollouts.

That said, I’m not really excited about the Morrison unless the design is way improved over the initial pics. I would also like to see an Android device with more powerful guts and hoping at least Samsung gives us one by the end of this year.

This Moto should give the Sidekick a major run for its money and I see that crowd gravitating towards this.

T-Mobile is huge international player yet only the 4th largest in the US. Their US underdog status makes me want to root for them more as I’m all about pressuring the bigger carriers to do more for their subs at better prices.

    I hope they are successful.

hmm theres a front facing camera under the screen. thats odd

I think your camera, sir, is a sensor of some sort

Zach Epstein has always been anti T-mobile. No way is T-mobile’s 3g slow at all.

    @ Mitsu8:

I kind of got that sense when the article pointed to some speedtest claiming their 3G network was slower than their rivals. He probably used to work for at&t or something. ;-)

It’s like congratulating a couple for getting married in the newspaper but talking crap about them at the same time.

    No worries.

I’m just glad to see more AWS Android capable phones and hoping the Morrison does well. The Nokia is not my cup of tea, but there DOES exist a demographic who would totally be satisfied with it so I won’t knock it.

Do you really think that phone is THAT fugly? It’s not designer, but it’s certainly not fugly–it’s simply middle-of-the-road inoffensive. It’s certainly no SE Jalou, so let’s keep things in perspective.

Tmobiles Speedtest from earlier PROVED they are slower……how can you argue that? It didnt say ATT was the shit either, get off your high horse tmobile losers. Half the price Half the Coverage and now Half the speed ;P

    @Brian

You based your opinions on what buddy? What you hear from other people? Have you actually used T-mobile? I don’t understand why people bash without knowing wtf they are talking about. A stupid test on BGR does not prove anything. Cheers my friend!

Yes Ive used Tmobile and their “3g” I have a mytouch and am leaving as soon as I convince them to make it so I dont have an ETF. My max Speed I have gotten was 800kbps which SUCKS. My friend has an Iphone and gets 1200kbps on average. SO cheers to you sir.

“a stupid test on bgr does not prove anything” You only say that because tmo wasnt 1st, if they were it would be a different story

  • Mitsu8

Go join the iPhone bandwagon on At&t then you will be regretting soon buddy. iPhone’s a good phone, but Android is a million times better. Have u seen the new Nokia N900? Way better than the jesus phone.

  • PandaBarr

Personally I just want to throw some credit out there for being able to use “fugly” in a review without it being exaggerated or unnecessary.

  • brian

I didnt say I was getting an iphone, I like my mytouch, I was just simply comparing the speeds. I wish vzw was gsm so i could use its network, I hate cdma phones. I dont see how android is 1m times better either, my mytouch has keyboard lag which i havnt seen on an iphone. i like open source but feel as if a jailbroken iphone is pretty much open source. Ill probably get my mytouch unlocked and get the touchpro2 from att and swap between them. I wish tmos network was simply better, and it is supposed to be better since the headquarters are in my same city :(
