RadioShack launch guide reveals initial T-Mobile handset offering

Exclusive

RadioShack, or “The Shack” as it will soon be called, announced last month that it would be snuggling up with T-Mobile in locations across the country. What we don’t know — or didn’t know, rather — was exactly which handsets the retailer would be carrying when its T-Mobile offering goes live on August 19th. A ninja just hit us with a giant internal launch document that sheds light on various internal resources, training, merchandising (see the image to the right) and plenty more involved with the Tmo launch. All that stuff is pretty boring however, so we cut the fat and were left with the list of devices the Shack will be hawking, 11 in total, beginning two weeks from tomorrow:

Postpaid handsets:

  • Samsung T239 (red)
  • Sony Ericsson TM506 (amber)
  • Samsung Gravity 2
  • Samsung Comeback (red)
  • BlackBerry Curve 8900
  • Samsung Behold
  • HTC myTouch 3G (black & white)

Prepaid handsets:

  • Nokia 1661
  • Samsung T239 (gray)
  • Nokia 2760
  • Samsung T349

Sure we already know plenty about each and every handset mentioned above, but you know you still want to hit the jump and check them out.

Im more concerned about price, anyone work for “The Shack” and know of any lunch specials they are going to have,

I would guess they would have some sort of deal, for launch week/weekend

  • Armo

Why does the BlackBerry Curve 8900 have “3G Speed” listed as one of its features? Hmmm…

  • o0stryxs0o

Question…it says that the 8900 has 3G speeds…this is false!

  • Al

Since when did the blackberry curve 8900 have 3g?

  • jk

Tmobile as a company barely has 3G.

  • Nick

By “3G Speed,” they’re referring to the speeds attainable via WiFi… :D

  • Jake

@ahmed: No word on pricing yet.

  • sick

And when did the Comback have a slide out keyboard?

  • Benton

Does this mean some RadioShack locations will have all 4 top carriers?

  • Eric

This is great. For poor people. Seriously t-mobile give up.

  • Mankato

Seriously Eric !! What the heck are you talking about? Give up on selling more phones through various channels like Radioshack and Walmart. I hope when you grow past your teenage years you will become better at thinking before typing.

i find it hilarious that some of you people make fun of tmobile’s 3G. it works perfectly fine for anyone who doesnt live in the boonies. in fact, its more constant than AT&T in my area. so sad that u guys are obligated to go with overpriced verizon and AT&T. enjoy your overpriced bill and crappy customer service.

What is up with people hating on T-Mobile?? I have been with T-Mobile for 7 years now, and I am convinced that I wouldn’t have stayed with any other carrier for so long. My parents and sister were originally on Sprint, but when we moved to our new house, they were analog roaming whereas I had full EDGE signal. And actually, Verizon and AT&T Wireless/Cingular Wireless/AT&T Mobility didn’t have signal there either until a few years ago.

Yes, T-Mobile’s behind on 3G, but they’ve been pretty fast with their launches. The 3G network finally lit up here in El Paso, right on schedule from that roadmap leak for Q3 2009.

T-Mobile has been the best value, and I’m sorry for your crippled Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint phones that are riddled with carrier software, restrictions, and non-global CDMA technology (obviously not applicable to AT&T).

@ Eric: I’m not poor but I consider myself smart with my money.

T-Mobile provides a great value for what I need. What I find ridiculous is how people will pay more for national coverage that they’ll never ever use.

I wouldn’t promote T-Mobile to people who live in areas they don’t serve well, but if they do work well why not consider them?

To set the record straight, their 3G coverage area will hit nearly 208 million POPS by years end. That is a nice chunk of area where most people live.

The Shack’s crap service, coupled with T-Mo’s crap service. Great combo.

  • Danny

Congrats Harry Legg for another imformative post! I think we met in the mall? You tried to sell me ATT service from an ATT Kiosk and tried all you can to knock the competition with FUD.

i work for radioshack, and this is pretty good news. at least 1 out of 6 ppl come in and ask if we deal tmobile. so more money in my pocket! i also hear there is a chance we will sell verizon once again. they are trying to change radioshacks image completely. we are known as a place who sells electronics, but also sells wireless. they want to be know for a place that sells wireless, but also sells electronics. the reason that radioshack is still around is bc 1) employess are underpaid, 2)great customer service, and 3) the profit they make. they buy a pack of batteries for 25 cents, and sells it for $4.49. you do the math. and we do have the best wireless prices most the time. if not we price match. and we do not deal with mail in rebates. and most ppl think buy one get one free is a deal, when in reality you pay $200 for one phone, and get one free. thats $100 each phone. when u can come into radioshack and walk out with the same phone for 40 bucks. not bad….

  • stevethequeeve

only certain radioshack stores didn’t carry t-mobile phones. i work for radioshack and we sell t-mobile. they even give us a dealer line with them. The beautiful part about buying t-mobile from “the shack” is our pricing is better than a corp store and we waive activation fees!

  • Slavio Shack employee

I am not to sure about waiving the activation fees but the price will be head turner.

  • Malibu Bobby

I’m another “Shack-Man”. Tons of customers come in looking for T-Mobile. After looking over their calling plans they are definitely the best value on the market. If you really look at most people’s calling habits, there are probably about 3-5 people that most people call most of the time. With Fave-Five that essentially gives you unlimited talk, with the day time mins being alotted to call friends outside of your five. As the Guiness guys say.. “BRILLIANT”! I also have alot of customers that come in and want to travel, and the fact that T-Mobile is a European based company and has GSM capabilities people who travel overseas love T-Mobile. I think Radio Shack’s Customer Service is 2nd to none, atleast at good stores anyway. If we can up our accessory game a little bit, and Apple/AT&T finally decides to give us the IPHONE, fah-get about it!! We’re shuttin the Wireless Game DOWN!
