Sprint ETF-free cancellations extended through March 15

Sprint just refuses to shut that door… Customers still looking for a way out of their contracts without having to drop some serious cash on an Early Termination Fee (ETF) have been given yet another opportunity to do so. Last month we told you about an extension through the end of January due to another increase the company made to its administrative fee (increase from $0.75 to $0.99). We’re not sure what the reasoning behind this latest extension is, but we have indeed confirmed with Sprint that the ETF-free cancellation period has been extended yet again, this time through March 15. We also confirmed that the administrative fee has not been readjusted – it still sits at $0.99 – so this extension pertains to the initial fee increase we reported. If you’re enjoying your time with Sprint and the extremely competitive rates the carrier is offering right now, you should definitely sit tight as it prepares to release the Treo Pro and more importantly, the Pre. If you’re having issues that Sprint just can’t seem to resolve however, the door is still open.

    I am having the same problem. Sprint just won’t let me go. I have tried every one of the tips on here. I even talked to about 6 different agents but to no avail. I told them the law was on my side, I told them I didn’t get notified (which I didn’t), everything… but nothing worked. Any help?

    ^Having exhausted all other options [or your patience], pay an attorney 150-200 to write a letter in order to defend your legal consumer rights. If leaving Sprint is the objective, pull the trigger and end the pain.

    I hate to tell everyone but I just got off chat and then retention and there is NO extension of the Free ETF. Sprint is as evil as ever but unfortunately I think we are stuck unless you want to pay the $200 fee.

    I’m having trouble getting my fees waived. My daughter bought a Sprint phone and renewed in Jan. Supposedly she had 30 days to opt-out. I bought Iphones when Best Buy showed me this article. Now I’m being charged and told I can’t opt out – I tried what folks mentioned about the admin fee increase and Sprint is playing DUMB! HELP!

    This is what happened to me too: This is false. I have made 2 calls into Sprint, chatted online and went into a store. Thay all tell me that since the change in billing happened over 30 days ago and/or a payment has been made, I, by default, agree to the new terms. If I wish to cancel my phone contract today it will cost me $200 plus tax. HELP!

    Look at your sprint bill on page two. Everytime I called into sprint they told me 30 days, but guess what it says 60 days on their bills on page two and a customer service guy pointed that out to me. You have to press that and tell them you are unhappy with the administrative fees and no telling whatelse they will charge you while you are still in contract. Good luck!

    Hi I just tried it and it worked. Here is what I did.

    I called their normal number and spoke to a normal CS rep. I said I wanted information about canceling my service because of the change in admin fee. He did not know about it and sent me to his sup. I told the sup that I wanted to cancel due to the change in admin fee’s. He sent me over to the retentions rep.

    I said I wanted to cancel my service because of the change in admin fee’s. That the deadline had been extended and I noticed it on my bill because it had increased.

    He 1st tried to credit the account for $24 the cost of the increase. I said no because of the change in admin fee’s they could charge for anything.

    Then he tried to upgrade my phone/plan. I said no.

    He then said he would prorate it. I said I researched it online and that is not the case its not a prorate its 100% out with out fee. He said ok and marked it on my account. That he offered me 3 things and I said no because of the fee increase.

    Be as nice as you can with them, I asked about the call center, location, … and he was really nice back. Make sure you get name and employee number encase of any problems.

    I also went back and forth with a sales rep. they wouldn’t cancel it but they said i can turn my plan into an “emergency line” where i just pay $6.00 for 6 months and they turn it off if my phone is inactive for that time period.

    I’ve been trying to contact Sprint for 2 weeks to get out of my contract. They keep saying that I only had 30 days from when I was notified. I was never notified. I don’t get paper bills. I tried calling and using the chat. Please advise.

    I canceled my sprint contract 12-31-09. I was informed by a retentions rep, that there would be no ETF, due to the contract breach caused by the admin fee increase. Now I’m getting a bill for an ETF, they tell me that there are no notes of ETF FREE cancelation. Has Anybody overcome this problem??

    What happens if you get out of the contract and they wave the ETF…? Don’t they cancel the service? Can I still keep my number and get an iPhone with the same phone number?

    I happen to be a customer care rep for sprint and I can tell you that I’ve had several people call in and tell me they had read this on BGR so I had to check it out…in depth. As a matter of fact a Sprint contract clearly states everything you need to know about “Surcharges” and or what it means when you sign a contract…just like any carrier. When you get a minute you should check out the “Terms and Conditions” @ http://nextelonline.nextel.com/en/legal/legal_terms_privacy_popup.shtml. Pay close attention to the sections labeled “Surcharges” and “Our Right To Change The Agreement & Your Related Rights”

    There are ways to get out of your Sprint contract but we don’t proactively offer a way out. We DO however offer prorated ETF’s as of contracts starting on or after Nov 2, 2008…GET YOUR INFO RIGHT BGR

    Is it too late to cancel sprint contract? I have just been aware that I could possibly get out of the ETF. I have Nextel does anyone know if it is possible to do it still.
