Jet Black is the new black when it comes to iPhone colors. The glossy black iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are the most popular iPhone models out there and were the first to sell out. Apple detailed the intricacies of manufacturing a Jet Black iPhone during the iPhone keynote, suggesting that the Jet Black iPhone is a real work of art and an impressive engineering feat. However, the Jet Black iPhone is far from perfect: It bruises very, very easily.

Wherever you find Jet Black written on Apple’s site, there’s going to be a footnote that explains the phone will scratch easily, and you might need a special case to keep it in pristine condition. Make no mistake, the Jet Black iPhone 7 isn’t more prone to physical damage than other iPhone 7 colors. It’s just that the Jet Black finish isn’t scratch resistant. At all. The problem is so severe that Apple has to warn buyers about it before they purchase one.
YouTube channel JerryRigEverything, which already put the iPhone 7 through the same smartphone durability tests it puts every new high-end device, is back with a new video that shows us how fast the Jet Black iPhone 7 will scratch. We won’t spoil it for you, but we will note that a tiny particle of something on Jerry’s shirt, which he used to wipe the back of the handset clean, was enough to leave an “incredibly minor” mark on the back.
