iOS 10 public beta now available to download

iOS 10 Public Beta Download

As promised back during its WWDC 2016 keynote, Apple has released a public beta for iOS 10 that anyone can download. This is one of the most substantial updates the mobile operating system has received in years, so despite the fact that they will have to deal with bugs and incomplete features, we expect thousands of iPhone users to install the public beta in the coming days.

DON’T MISS: Apple fixed that annoying new iPhone unlock gesture in iOS 10 beta 2

If you want access to the iOS 10 public beta, all you need to do is head to Apple’s Beta Software Program webpage, click the blue “Sign Up” button, sign in with your Apple ID and agree to the terms of the beta.

[Fair warning: Although the public beta is clearly rolling out today, I haven’t actually been able to access it yet on my personal iPhone 6.]

Anyone that has been testing the developer beta will tell you that the current version of the software is anything but perfect, but if you simply can’t wait to see what the next generation of iOS has in store, be sure to back up your data before you install the public beta. Plug your iPhone or iPad into your computer, open iTunes, select your device and hit Back Up Now. You can’t be too careful.

Once you’ve taken the appropriate precautions, you can begin installing the beta by following the steps on Apple’s website. Here are some posts detailing a few of the features you’ll be able to take advantage of once you’ve updated:

That might not be enough for a casual user, but avid fans are understandably going to have a hard time waiting for September to check out all of the new features on display in iOS 10.

Additionally, the macOS Sierra public beta will be available for download today as well. Not quite as exciting as the iOS 10 beta, but you can also find instructions for how to get the Sierra public beta on Apple’s Beta Program site.
