Galaxy Note 7 Leak

This has been a big week of firsts for eager Samsung fans who can’t wait to get their hands on the company’s upcoming new flagship phone, the Galaxy Note 7. After a few rounds of new photos leaked earlier in the week, we showed you the first ever video of a working Galaxy Note 7 on Thursday. The new flagship phablet appears to be everything we’ve come to expect after weeks of leaks and rumors — and that’s a good thing, because leaks have thus far painted a very impressive picture.

Now, another first: A video posted on Weibo by an anonymous user appears to show the Galaxy Note 7’s new iris scanner in action.

We can’t say we’re terribly surprised, but Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 7 is shaping up to be one of the most impressive smartphones the world has ever seen. Here’s a small sampling of the specs we’re anticipating following a string of reports from solid sources:

  • 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display
  • 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM
  • 64GB+ of storage
  • microSDXC  support up to 2TB
  • 12-megapixel Dual Pixel rear camera
  • 5-megapixel front-facing camera
  • IP68 dust and water resistance
  • Exynos 8893 processor or Snapdragon 821 processor (depending on region)
  • Fingerprint scanner
  • Iris scanner

Where that last bullet point is concerned, the Note 7 is expected to be the first mass-market smartphone to ship with an eye scanner that will further enhance the phone’s security. It’s not clear exactly how or where Samsung plans to implement this nifty new feature, but the first leaked video of the Note 7’s iris scanner in action appears to confirm the main use case we all expected — unlocking the phone. As for any other uses the iris scanner might have, we’ll just have to wait and see.
