Donald Trump will hold his first press conference since July 27th, 2016, on Wednesday afternoon. It will be his first press conference as president-elect of the United States, coming amid a flurry of bizarre and troubling reports regarding his ties to Russia. The conference was originally scheduled to take place on December 15th, but was postponed as Trump and his team attempted to navigate the treacherous waters of making cabinet appointments and putting together a transition team.
Providing there are no further delays, Trump is currently scheduled to speak at Trump Tower in New York City at 11:00 AM EST / 8:00 AM PST on Wednesday morning. Certainly, Trump’s plans for the Affordable Care Act—which he recently confirmed he wants repealed and replaced as quickly as possible—will be a topic of discussion, along with the controversial cabinet appointments he has made since winning the election.
But after Tuesday evening, CNN’s shocking report will likely take center stage. According to the report, both President-elect Trump and President Obama were shown classified documents last week that allege Russian operatives “have compromising personal and financial information about Mr. Trump.”
While the FBI is investigating the legitimacy of the allegations, which were based on information provided by a former British intelligence operative and multiple unnamed Russian sources, BuzzFeed went ahead and published the full 35-page document late on Tuesday, setting off a wildfire online just as President Obama was taking the stage to deliver his farewell address.
Considering the extraordinary nature of some of the details included in the document—one which was responsible for a popular, vulgar hashtag on Twitter on Tuesday evening—Trump is seemingly going to have no choice but to address the document during the press conference, at the very least to deny is legitimacy.
