Despite making killer phones, HTC has been an ungodly mess for the past two years

Why Is HTC Struggling

Is there any company that so regularly releases great products while also regularly being in the midst of turmoil as HTC? Engadget’s Brad Molen has written a comprehensive timeline of major executive departures at HTC over the past two years and they show how HTC has faced constant turnover at key positions without showing any signs of stabilizing anytime soon.

The most recent departures are former chief marketing officer Benjamin Ho and president of engineering and operations Fred Liu. Ho’s departure was entirely predictable since he was the brains behind HTC’s decision to spend $1 billion on an unbelievably terrible ad campaign centered around Robert Downey, Jr. In fact, if HTC hadn’t canned Ho after he blew $1 billion of the company’s money on nonsensical and ineffective ads, we would have been shocked.

But these two aren’t the only high-profile departures. As Molen documents, other executives who have fled HTC over the past two years include former senior VP of design and user experience Scott Croyle; global VP of PR and communications Lorain Wong; VP of product design Thomas Chien; chief product officer Kouji Kodera; R&D director Bill Wu; and senior manager of design and innovation Justin Huang, among many, many others.
