An Uber driver threatened to cut a woman’s neck after she canceled a ride

Uber Driver Threatens Violence

Uber is an incredibly convenient, and often affordable way to get around a big city, but without an adequate vetting process, there’s always the risk that you’ll end up with a lunatic as your driver. Earlier this week, BuzzFeed shared the story of Anna Kealey, a 28-year-old Hackney resident who received an incredibly distressing voicemail after canceling her Uber ride.

Kealey tells BuzzFeed that she initially requested an Uber at around 11 am, but when the car was still a few minutes away, she decided to cancel the ride and walk instead.

“The irony is I cancelled the cab because I occasionally get panic attacks,” she said, “and right after I called it I began to feel anxious so I decided to walk instead to calm myself down and tell my friends that I would be late.”

Later in the day, she checked her voicemail to discover that the man who would have been her driver had left a voicemail. Here it is in its entirety:

After shouting incoherently for several seconds, the driver tells Kealey: “Don’t do it again. Otherwise, I’ll cut your neck.” Kealey tweeted about the incident and Uber’s support staff was quick to respond, requesting that she get in touch through the company’s contact page.

“We have spoken to the rider to ensure they are OK and encouraged them to report this the police,” said an Uber spokesperson. “The driver has been immediately suspended, as is our policy, and we are investigating fully.”
