Twice a year, the biggest names in video game speedrunning from all around the world come together for Games Done Quick, a livestreamed charity marathon which has quickly become one of the most popular gaming events on the Internet. Summer Games Done Quick 2014, the latest incarnation of the marathon, started this Sunday with a speedrun of Super Mario 3D World, one of our favorite games of 2013. Of course, we didn’t beat it in under 2 hours.
Games Done Quick raises money for Doctors Without Borders, a humanitarian organization which delivers emergency medical care to individuals in more than 65 countries. Over the course of Awesome Games Done Quick 2014, the first marathon of the year, donators raised over $1,000,000 for the organization, an extraordinarily impressive feat for a seven day event.
This summer, the Games Done Quick attendees will play through over 150 games as quickly as they can, from unforgettable classics like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and Sonic the Hedgehog to hidden gems like Pulseman and Samurai Pizza Cats. The stream will be running 24 hours a day from June 22nd to June 28th, but if you miss any of the runs, the complete archives will be available shortly after the event is over. Be sure to check the schedule and set aside time for the games you want to watch.
