Samsung sales surpass Apple in quarter before iPhone 5s, 5c release

There might be more phones running Android than any other operating system, but it’s not often that a single Android smartphone manufacturer manages to jump Apple in quarterly sales. CNN shared a report from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) that shows Samsung mobile phones accounted for 38% of U.S. sales in Q3 2013, while Apple ended up with 34%. CIRP co-founder Josh Lowitz believes that the position swap can be attributed to iPhone buyers holding off on making a purchase until the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c launched in late September. Apple will likely retake the lead in Q4, but for now, Samsung is back on top. CIRP’s chart can be seen below.
