Despite the seemingly endless string of releases over the past year, Samsung hasn’t had a great deal of success in the wearable industry. There’s no question that each subsequent release has improved upon its predecessor, but from the original Galaxy Gear to the Android Wear-powered Gear Live, the company hasn’t made enough significant progress to cement its place in a growing market.

Samsung thinks it might be able to turn its luck around with the Gear S, the first Tizen smartwatch which doubles as a smartphone. Samsung announced on Tuesday that the Gear S would be coming to the United States this fall on all four major carriers, including Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile. The report didn’t include a specific release date, but Samsung  had previously announced it would be bringing the Gear S to international markets in October.

The Gear S is primed to be one of the more powerful smartwatches on the market. It features a 480 x 360 2-inch Super AMOLED display, 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, 300mAh battery, WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth — all running on Tizen. Much like its smartphone counterparts, it will be dust and water resistant. It also has 3G support for calling and texting without needing to pair with a smartphone.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for an official U.S. release date in the coming weeks.
