We all expect that Samsung’s Galaxy S5 will be a terrific device with top-notch specifications but a new report in The Korea Herald suggests that it could positively blow the iPhone 5s out of the water in two significant areas of design. In the first place, The Korea Herald’s source claims that the Galaxy S5 will be the first smartphone to have a bezel-free display, which means that users will be able to interact with the entire screen from side to side. The source also speculates that Apple is working on a similar bezel-free display for the iPhone 6, so it would be a major victory for Samsung to get a bezel-free smartphone to the market first.

Second, the source says that Samsung is working on fingerprint-scanning technology that will let users scan their fingerprints anywhere on the display and not just on one home button. He doesn’t expect the full-screen fingerprint technology to be ready at the Galaxy S5’s launch but he says that it could come by the end of the year. To make way for this full-display fingerprint scanner, Samsung has also reportedly eliminated the oval-shaped home button that has long been a trademark of its flagship devices.

Although there’s no way to verify these rumors we thankfully won’t have to wait much longer to see if they’re true since Samsung plans to have a major launch event for the Galaxy S5 later this month.
