It’s been a tumultuous few weeks for the best new movie streaming app on the Internet. Popcorn Time surprised everyone when it launched last month, attracting the attention of thousands of pirates in search of a convenient alternative to torrents. With Popcorn Time, a single download gives you access to hundreds of high-quality streams from the genre of your choosing — the catch: it’s all very illegal. That didn’t stop every tech blog online from covering the app, eventually resulting in the untimely resignation of its developers.

Days later, a new team had taken over development of the app, promising that Popcorn Time would be around for the foreseeable future. There have been plenty of bumps in the road as the group builds upon what had already been heralded as the “Netflix for pirates,” but even though TechCrunch reported that the official website and the Github download page went down on Wednesday, everything appears to be up and running once again.

With such a high profile, downtime is inevitable, but Popcorn Time appears to be online at the time of writing, but there’s no telling for how long that will be the case.
