Sony on Tuesday announced it has sold more than 2.1 million PlayStation 4 units in the two weeks since the console was first launched. The PS4 was released in North America on November 15, with Sony announcing over 1 million sales for the first 24 hours. Two weeks later, the console was launched in multiple markets in Europe and Latin America. The PS4 is now available in 32 markets around the world.

Comparatively, Microsoft also sold over 1 million Xbox One units during launch day, although the console was sold in more markets than the PS4 on the day of its release. A recent report revealed that in the U.K., the PS4 is the more popular product of the two in the region, with Amazon projecting that the console will become the fastest selling console in Amazon U.K. history. However, the Xbox One was the more popular choice at Walmart and Target in the U.S. during Black Friday, though supply constraints likely played a role in the large discrepancy.

Sony aims to sell five million PS4 units in its current fiscal year, which ends in March 2014.
