Sony still confident in huge PS4 launch, sales seen hitting 5M by March

PlayStation 4 Sales Projection

Sony reported its fiscal second-quarter results on Thursday, posting a $196 million loss despite strong smartphone sales. The company said that revenue from its consumer electronics division is slowing faster than expected due in part to declining PC and high-definition television sales, but there may be something of a light at the end of this tunnel. During the company’s earnings call, Sony reaffirmed statements made last month, suggesting that it expects to sell 5 million PlayStation 4 consoles by the end of the current fiscal year. Should the company manage to meet its lofty goal, it would represent a massive 72% increase over the 2.9 million PlayStation 3 consoles Sony sold over the same period of time following its last console launch.
