President Barack Obama on Wednesday said during a healthcare-related speech that he’s not allowed to use an iPhone for “security reasons,” with Reuters describing him as a “very loyal” BlackBerry customer. The point Obama made was that iPhone-related bills combined with cable bills may top $100 per month, which is more than what people will pay for health insurance under his new healthcare law.
“Now my suspicion is that for a lot of you, between your cable bill and your phone bill, you’re spending more than $100 a month,” Obama said. “The idea that you wouldn’t want to make sure you’ve got the health security and financial security that comes with health insurance for less than that price, you guys are smarter than that. Most young people are as well.”
The President had famously stood by his BlackBerry when he first took office in 2009 for email purposes, although it’s said that only 10 people have his email address. However, Obama uses Apple’s iPad, and during the speech on healthcare he also revealed that his daughters “seem to spend a lot of time” on the iPhone.
