We’re very happy to hear that Google isn’t going to stop producing Nexus-branded products anytime soon, particularly since both its Nexus 5 smartphone and its Nexus 7 tablet were two terrific gadgets. Now @evleaks brings us word that Google’s next major tablet, which will likely be called the Nexus 9, will have some absolutely killer specs that should make it the best Google tablet yet released.

For starters, the Nexus 9 will be manufactured by HTC and will feature a silver aluminum unibody design. HTC really does produce terrific hardware so we’re definitely excited to see the Taiwanese company’s take on Google’s Nexus tablets.

Other specs for the tablet, which is currently codenamed “Volantis,” include an 8.9-inch display with a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels, a 64-bit, 2.3 GHz Tegra K-1 quad-core processor, 5GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. @evleaks says that the device is being tested out right now with a 5-megapixel camera, although he says it may ship with an 8-megapixel camera when it actually launches.

We still don’t know when the Nexus 9 will actually be announced, although recent rumors suggest that Google will start mass production of the device in July or August, which likely means the device will launch early in the fall.

UPDATE: @evleaks now says that these leaked specs were part of a hoax perpetrated by a 14-year-old posing as a Google engineer. It can happen to the best of us.
