Nexus 5 rumor: Benchmark hints it will be 2015’s Android phone to beat

Nexus 5 2015 Leaked Benchmark

We’re definitely filing this in the “rumor” category but it’s intriguing nonetheless. WCCF Tech has spotted an AnTuTu benchmark for the 2015 Nexus 5 and it hints that the next Google smartphone will be the Android phone to beat this year. In all, the 2015 Nexus 5 achieved a score of over 85,000 on AnTuTu, which positively thumps the 68,000+ score achieved by Samsung’s Galaxy S6. However, there are some reasons for caution before you get too excited.

First, we know that benchmarks can be gamed to achieve stronger results before a phone is actually released and that devices aren’t quite so impressive once they actually end up in users’ hands. Second, WCCF Tech isn’t sure which processor now available on the market could help deliver this level of performance.

“At present there are only two that could overpower the processing capabilities of Exynos 7420,” the publication writes. “One of them is Helio X20, while the other is Snapdragon 820. However, MediaTek had earlier stated that its 10-core chipset will be able to obtain a score of 70,000+ in AnTuTu, whereas, the score in front of us goes up to 15,000 additional points. Moving on, a Snapdragon 820 could also be present inside LG Nexus 5 2015, but so far, we have only received scores of what the SoC is capable of in a Geekbench leak.”

Hopefully more 2015 Nexus 5 benchmarks will start showing up so we can get a better idea of what this phone is capable of. For now, however, we remain cautiously intrigued.
