Netflix Recommended TV Program

Buying a new television can be debilitating, but Netflix wants to make the decision easier for its subscribers. That’s why the company behind the streaming service is introducing the Netflix Recommended TV program, an evaluation program which will grade smart TVs based on how well they interact with various Internet TV services, including Netflix.

FROM EARLIER: Netflix is starting to wound the movie industry where it hurts most

“We’ve created the Netflix Recommended TV program to help consumers identify smart TVs that offer better performance, easier menu navigation and new features that improve the experience for Internet TV services,”’’ said Neil Hunt, chief product officer at Netflix. “”When you see a TV with the Netflix Recommended TV logo, it means that TV will provide an excellent Netflix experience, based on criteria our members tell us matter most.’’”

Sony, LG, Sharp, Vizio and the manufacturers of Roku TVs are expected to be the first the receive the Netflix Recommended TV logo this spring.

Beyond whether or not they run Netflix well, the program will also evaluate the TVs based on how quickly they power on, how fast they launch apps and their ability to resume video playback without a delay. This will start as a US-based program, but Netflix believes global manufacturers will be looking to live up the seal of quality as well.
