The new motion-tracking features in Apple’s iPhone 5s are pretty nifty, but they’re only of value if you have an app that can collect all the data recorded by Apple’s M7 motion co-processor and present it in a useful way. The Moves app does just that, along with the added bonus of presenting all that step data in a beautiful and minimalistic interface.

News broke on Thursday that Facebook acquired ProtoGeo, the developer behind the Moves app for iOS. Some might be freaked out by the fact that Facebook now has access to data covering each and every step you take. Those who aren’t, however, will be happy to learn that Moves has dropped from $2.99 to free as a result of the acquisition.

From the app’s description:

Moves automatically tracks your everyday exercise, commuting and time spent in important places. Just carry your phone in your pocket or bag.

NEW IN MOVES 2.5: A Complete Exercise Diary!

• New activities are not (yet) automatically recognized, but easy to add

More features available from the Connected Apps catalog.
