Microsoft: We have no plans to build our own phones

Updated 4 years ago

Despite earlier reports, a Microsoft executive has stated that the software giant has no plans to build its own smartphone. Greg Sullivan, the senior marketing manager for Windows Phone, said the company has no plans to apply its self-branded tablet strategy to the smartphone market, Information Week reported. Microsoft will instead rely on its hardware partners, HTC, Nokia, Samsung and Huawei. “We have a strong ecosystem of partners that we are very satisfied with,” Sullivan said on Friday, adding that the Redmond-based company is “stoked” for the next-generation of Windows Phone handsets. Microsoft could still potentially enter the hardware business, however, through an acquisition of troubled Finnish handset-maker Nokia.
