We all love the Internet, but it’s also filled with nefarious hackers willing to take advantage of every single oversight. Some security issues are built into online services, while others are caused by actual users. The only way to ensure you’re really safe online is to protect access to your accounts with strong, unique passwords that are hard to crack. But that also means you’ll have to make sure you remember all the complex passwords you set up.

Thankfully, there are apps that can handle that for you, and one of them is now available as a free download on smartphones, tablets or desktop.

LastPass announced on Tuesday that it’s going to offer the app free of charge to new users. However, the Premium version of LastPast will still be an option for those users looking for more advanced features.

The free version of LastPass lets you save all the passwords you want, autofill information, and store notes securely. However, the free version won’t let you sync data across platforms, but you will be able to continue using it for free on the type of device you first download it on. In other words, you can download LastPass on iPhone 6 right now and use it for free and it will transfer over to the iPhone 6s as a free app when you upgrade.

The Premium version costs $12 per year and it brings users sync capabilities across an unlimited number of devices and platforms. The full press release follows below.

LastPass’ Freemium Model Now Available on Mobile Devices
New Users Can Now Sign Up and Use LastPass on Smartphones or Tablets for Free

FAIRFAX, VA–(Marketwired – Aug 11, 2015) – LastPass, the world’s most popular password manager, today announces that new users can get started with the service for free on mobile devices, including smartphones or tablets.

This new model also enables first-time users to sync data across the same device type they get started on, without needing to upgrade to LastPass Premium. Users can still choose to get started with LastPass on a desktop or laptop computer, too.

“People often hear about useful apps on the go and want to get started right away from their smartphone,” said Joe Siegrist, CEO of LastPass. “This new freemium model allows LastPass users to get started with our password manager on the device of their choice.”

LastPass’ free password manager helps centralize passwords and logins, store secure notes, autofill website logins, share sensitive information safely with others, and streamline the online shopping experience.

Whatever device users get started on, they can use LastPass on that device and any others of the same device type — desktops, smartphones or tablets — for free. With this latest change, LastPass is making it easier and more affordable to organize users’ digital lives and improve overall online security.

To sync across an unlimited number of devices, including desktops, laptops, smartphones and tablets, users can upgrade to the LastPass Premium service, which comes with a free 14-day trial and costs $12 per year.
