Outgoing The Daily Show anchor Jon Stewart on Monday evening revealed he fully supports incoming host Trevor Noah in spite of the recent controversy around some of Noah’s older tweets. Stewart, who hosted the popular Comedy Central show for 17 years, said he is very excited about Noah’s arrival and urged fans to give him a chance to prove himself instead of judging him by looking at old misfired jokes from Twitter.

“I know there was a large kerfuffle on Twitter,” Stewart said. “But I can say this. I think without hesitation, Trevor Noah will earn your trust and respect, or not. Just as I earned your trust and respect, or did not.”

“It kind of just goes that way. The only thing I would say is, I do hope you give him an opportunity to earn that trust and respect. Because my experience with him is that he is an incredibly thoughtful and considerate and funny and smart individual. And man, I think you give him that time, and it’s going to be well worth it. I’m excited for where he’s going to take this thing. And I’m going to watch. I’m gonna set my DVR,” Stewart added.

It’s still a mystery when Noah will take over the The Daily Show from Stewart, as Comedy Central has yet to make any formal announcements. Meanwhile, Monday’s The Daily Show episode is available at the source link.
