Many iPhone 6s buyers will purchase protective cases to ensure the safety of their new toys. But iPhone fans upgrading from last year’s model probably have such accessories laying around the house already, and they might be wondering whether the slightly thicker new iPhones will fit them.

The answer comes directly from Apple’s official iPhone 6s accessories store: Yes.

The company says iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus accessories can also be used for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus respectively. However, Apple only lists this compatibility detail for its own cases (see image below). Existing third-party iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are only compatible with last year’s models though they’re likely going to fit new iPhones as well – buyers should definitely check with case makers to be sure.

For example, AppleInsider notes that case maker Speck already indicated that its iPhone 6 cases will match the new model. Meanwhile, Moshi told BGR that existing iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus case lineup are a fit for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

Meanwhile, here’s a great deal on an iPhone 6s case that you can order directly from Amazon.

The iPhone 6s measures 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1mm, while the iPhone 6 measures 138.1 x 67.0 x 6.9mm. The bigger iPhone 6s Plus measures 158.2 x 77.9 x 7.3mm compared to 158.1 x 77.8 x 7.1mm for last year’s iPhone 6 Plus. Apple’s 2015 iPhones are also slightly heavier than the iPhone 6 series, but this particular characteristic shouldn’t affect case compatibility.
