Yet another report points to a huge camera upgrade for the iPhone 6s

iPhone 6s Specs Rumor 12-Megapixel Camera

The iPhone 6 has one of the best smartphone cameras in the world even though it only delivers a resolution of 8 megapixels. With this in mind, we can’t wait to see what the iPhone 6s’s camera will be able to do if it gets an upgrade to 12 megapixels.

G for Games points us to a new report posted on Chinese website Feng that claims Apple will use a Sony 12-megapixel camera sensor that will also feature PenTile RGBW technology. For those of you who don’t know, RGBW technology adds an extra white subpixel to the standard red-green-blue subpixel setup, thus creating a brighter display that doesn’t drain additional power.

For the record, this is not the first time we’ve heard about the iPhone 6s possibly using a 12-megapixel camera, as earlier this month other leaks claimed that Apple had finally decided to upgrade the megapixel count on  its smartphones, which have had 8-megapixel cameras since the launch of the iPhone 4s back in 2011.

What we’re really interested to see, however, is whether Apple includes optical image stabilization (OIS) technology that significantly improves low-light photography with the iPhone 6s. The iPhone 6 Plus’s camera came with OIS last year, although Apple didn’t include the technology in its smaller iPhone 6 model.
