There was never any doubt that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus would be two of the best selling phones of the year, but Apple might have to grapple with an unintended side effect of the success of its latest flagships devices. According to the latest data from Compare My Mobile, 12% of pre-2014 model iPad owners traded in their tablet for an iPhone 6 and 8% downsized to an iPhone 6 Plus, reports PhoneArena.

Apple’s tablets continue to receive stellar marks from critics year after year, but iPad sales have been failing to meet the company’s expectations. Anyone who has handled an iPhone 6 or an iPhone 6 Plus is fully aware that the phone can’t replace a tablet, but for many, the tablet can’t replace a notebook either. Of course, the iPad isn’t in any immediate danger of being pushed from Apple’s yearly lineup, but it might be time for some innovation.

After all, Compare My Mobile’s data also shows that tons of Apple fans traded in their iPads right after the announcement of the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3, indicating that they would probably be sticking with the Apple slate this year.
