Apple may have everything it needs to make more than 100 million sapphire iPhone 6 displays but that doesn’t mean the company actually plans to build them. AppleInsider directs our attention to a new report from G for Games claiming that several Chinese media outlets are reporting that Apple will make sapphire displays for its upcoming iWatch wearable computer but not for its iPhone 6. Apparently Taiwanese supply chain sources are claiming that a sapphire iPhone 6 would be too cost prohibitive at this time, although that won’t be as big a problem for the iWatch and its smaller display. AppleInsider notes that this new report comes after Taiwanese media reported just last month that iPhone manufacturer Foxconn had made the first-ever iPhone prototype with a sapphire display so these latest reports could be little more than uninformed supply chain chatter.
