Bluetooth speed probably isn’t the kind of hardware detail you’re interested in when buying a new computer or smartphone, including the iPhone 6s. However, it appears the company did bump the Bluetooth speed from Bluetooth 4.0 to Bluetooth 4.2 on the devices it released last year.

As 9to5Mac discovered (see image below), Apple has quietly updated the specs page for some of its iOS products, replacing Bluetooth 4.0 support with Bluetooth 4.2. The change concerns the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2, which previously were listed as featuring Bluetooth 4.0 speeds, while the new iOS devices, including iPhone 6s series, iPad Pro and iPad mini 4 were already registered with Bluetooth 4.2 support on their respective web pages.
It’s not clear when the change was done, whether this is a mistake, or whether Apple has been able to bump Bluetooth speeds on older iOS devices without actually updating the hardware.
