One of the more annoying features Facebook still offers to users is a special email address that never really took off as a viable email alternative for Facebook users. While it’s not clear whether the company plans to discontinue it, what Facebook has done is to limit its use to forwarding any messages to a user’s primary email address.

Forbes reporter Kashmir Hill noticed registration emails for “sex cam services and an inappropriately-named Instagram account” hitting her email address via her Facebook, and realized someone managed to identify her email address “by pairing the ‘public user name’ contained in the URL of every Facebook profile with” to sign up for those online services.

Hill quickly found that there’s an easy way to disable her Facebook email address, meaning that any Facebook user can now kill their address, at least until Facebook officially ditches it. Users have to go to the top right hand corner of their Facebook account pages and select the lock, then the “See More Settings” option then “General” and then “Email.” Once there, they’ll have to uncheck a box that says “use your Facebook email” to disable Facebook email and save the changes, as seen in the following image.
