Perhaps Goophone should stick to ripping off Apple instead of trying to design things from scratch. GizmoChina has posted a hands-on video showing us Goophone’s first effort at making its own smartwatch and its one contribution to history may be to show that it is actually possible to design a smartwatch worse than the Galaxy Gear. The device’s body is a clunky-looking square that’s attached to a comically wide wristband that makes the device look like it was designed by Dr. Smith as a birthday gift for Robby the Robot. Goophone’s engineering wizards also thought it would be a good idea to install an overlay of Windows 8’s Metro screen as the main user interface even though the device runs on Android.

“Goophone Smart Watch, yet another reason to love Goophone,” Goophone explains on its website’s smartwatch page. “With new design, this new Goophone you have never seen it. Goophone Smart Watch is market leader in combined watch phone technology, the first designers, innovators & manufacturers within this high technology watch phone sector. Manufacturers of a diverse range of watch phones with unique consumer benefits, so Goophone i5C feels fashional and cool on your wrist.”

GizmoChina’s hands-on video of the Goophone watch follows below.
