The annual Mobile World Congress trade show didn’t officially start until today, but there is no question that Samsung stole the show on Sunday. The company’s new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge smartphones represent a bold new era at Samsung, one where the company is finally willing to build a smartphone out of premium materials that better compliment its cutting-edge specs.

Among the improvements in Samsung’s new flagship phones is an impressive new camera that could be the best smartphone camera in the world when it launches. And now, we have our first official samples of photos captured with the Galaxy S6’s camera.

Like the devices themselves, the camera on the back of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge is completely new and improved. The unit’s 16-megapixel sensor hardly tells the whole story — highlights from the camera specs also include an F-Stop of f/1.9, smart optical image stabilization (OIS), quick-launch, tracking auto-focus, auto real-time HDR, IR detect white balance adjustment and plenty more.

But how does all that translate when it comes to capturing photos?

We won’t be able to pass final judgement on the new camera until we’ve had a review unit in our hands for a while, but Samsung has released its first set of official photo samples to give us an idea of what to expect from the new camera on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge… in optimal lighting conditions, of course.
