The real reason Ikea is putting wireless chargers in its furniture all of a sudden

Even before all the MWC 2015 craziness started, reports on Sunday morning started hitting the web detailing a special feature coming to Ikea furniture, built-in support for wireless charging, that should come in handy to smartphone and tablet users in the future. As it turns out, Ikea’s new furniture functionality wasn’t accidentally unveiled at MWC, so to speak, as the company had a secret deal in the works.

FROM EARLIER: Samsung Galaxy S6 edge hands-on: We finally found the Galaxy we’ve been looking for

The company partnered up with Samsung, the Galaxy S6 maker revealed on its Tomorrow blog, which must certainly be good news for Ikea fans that happen to also love the new Galaxy S line of products.

For the first time ever, a Galaxy S model is coming with built-in wireless charging features — actually, make that two models, as both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge will have the same kind of battery technology — and Ikea furniture with built-in power stands will certainly come in handy.

Bedside tables, lamps and desks made by Ikea will also become charging stations for mobile devices including the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. The first such products should be launched this April in Europe and North America, followed by many other markets.

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, unveiled in Barcelona earlier on Sunday, will be available in stores on April 10th.
