Aside from secret weapons, Galaxy S5 will also improve current tech

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting smartphone launches of the year — or rather, several of the most exciting smartphone launches of the year, since we’re undoubtedly in store for multiple versions of Samsung’s flagship handset in 2014. Dozens of reports over the past few months have claimed to reveal various secret weapons the Galaxy S5 may pack. Among them are a quad HD display that sports twice as many pixels as a 1080p panel, new faster RAM chips, a 64-bit 8-core processor and an embedded eye scanner for enhanced security. But just as the Galaxy Note 3 focused on refinement and not just piling on new features, the Galaxy S5 will also reportedly bring improvements to several key features found on the current Galaxy S4.

According to South Korea’s ET News, the Galaxy S5 will make use of new technology from partner Synaptics that will enhance and improve key features such as Air View and Air Gestures. The former allows users to hover a finger over an unopened message or other types of content to see a preview of that content, while the latter allows users to control their phones with hand gestures performed in the air in front of the device’s display.

The report also claims that the upcoming Galaxy Note 4 will feature similarly improved stylus support.

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 is expected to be unveiled in March ahead of an April launch. According to numerous reports, the Galaxy S5’s specs include a large quad HD display, a new 64-bit 8-core Exynos processor or a quad-core Snapdragon processor depending on the model, a 16-megapixel camera with new technology that offers improved low-light photo quality, 3GB or 4GB of RAM, a 4,000 mAh battery and Android 4.4 KitKat.
