This is no joke: a man in London decided to start helping ordinary citizens the good old “Batman” way. The masked crusader has saved at least two people from muggings and has been spotted by bystanders in at least three different incidents.

The news comes from British online publication The Standard, which says that a masked man saved a middle-aged businessman on Monday night in Bromley town center from a group of thugs looking to rob him at knifepoint.

“I thought I was quite literally done for,” the victim said. “Then, out of nowhere, a man about 6ft tall, dressed in black combat-style trousers and a tight muscle top, and wearing a black bandana mask, came running towards them.”

“He kicked the biggest of my attackers to the ground, which must have knocked the wind out of him. Then he grabbed one of the others and swung him into the other one, and pushed them both into a prickly hedge. They were both screaming in pain.”

Police have not received any reports about the vigilante, but witnesses have seen him in action, reporting similar feats.

One woman said that about four months ago, the masked man prevented her from being robbed by tripping the would-be thief running with her bag and returning it to her.

“He gave me back my bag, and told me something along the lines of: ‘Make sure this doesn’t happen again,'” she said. “If I could give him a kiss to say thanks, I would be a happy girl.”

A third account detailed the Bromley Batman in action in which he intervened in a fight one night a few weeks ago.

“He grabbed one of them, attacking him, and put some kind of ninja lock on him. He pushed him while twisting this geezer’s arm into the other fella,” a witness said, suggesting the “hero” is trained in martial arts.

Is he the hero London deserves or needs? Does he have a Bromley Alfred of his own? We’ll just have to wait and see whether he’s actually going to save any other people in and around London to find out more details about him.
