Apple is reportedly getting ready to manufacture the Apple Watch, with Digitimes citing supply chain sources that say chipmakers are “gearing up” to start production for the device.

These unnamed sources have revealed that Apple Watch chips orders are estimated at 30 million to 40 million units, likely for 2015, with the device expected to ship at some point early next year, according to Apple’s official comments on the matter.

The Apple Watch smartwatch will pack a special “custom-designed system-in-package (SiP) chip, which miniaturizes an entire computer architecture onto a single chip,” a chip that Apple has specifically built for the device.

A recent internal memo leak revealed that Apple might launch the Apple Watch in spring 2015, rather than earlier as it was previously rumored — reports said the company may be eying Valentine’s Day 2015 as a potential launch date for the wearable device, but that might not be the case any longer.

Other recent reports have also revealed purported Apple prices for stainless steel and gold versions of the Apple Watch, supposed to sell for $500 and up to $5,000, respectively.

Digitimes’ report doesn’t offer any details regarding the potential launch of the Apple Watch.
