New leak confirms Google will unveil ‘Android M’ at I/O this year

Android M Leak Google I/O

We all know it’s coming but it’s still nice to get some official confirmation. Android Police has posted a leaked screenshot from the official Google I/O 2015 program that shows a software release called “Android M” will be on the agenda. Google quickly pulled the item from its online agenda when it realized it mentioned “Android M” but it’s too late: The cat is already out of the bag.

FROM EARLIER: I’ve been an Android user for 5 years – here’s why I’m very tempted to switch to iOS

While new versions of Android typically are named after desserts of some kind, last year Google unveiled Android 5.0 as “Android L” before giving it the final name “Lollipop” in the fall. So while the initial version of the new Android build will be called Android M, we can bet Google will give it a sweeter name by the time it’s ready to release to users.

As for what features Android M will have, the leaked agenda item explains that “Android M is bringing the power of Android to all kinds of workplaces,” which will open up “huge new markets for hundreds of millions of devices to workers at small businesses, deskless workers, logistics and warehousing jobs.” That’s not a lot to go on, though we’ll definitely learn more about Android M when Google unveils it at Google I/O starting on May 28th.
