An unsettling statistic for Apple (AAPL) has come to light: Consumer adoption of Android smartphones is increasing six times faster than iPhone adoption, according to KPCB analyst Mary Meeker. Smartphones running Google’s (GOOG) operating system were previously outpacing iPhone sales in May at a rate that was four times faster than that of Apple’s, however adoption continued to increase throughout the summer. Speaking at Bloomberg’s San Francisco headquarters on Monday, Meeker also revealed that shipments of Android devices surpassed those running Windows for the first time ever in the first quarter of 2012, TechCrunch reported. Manufacturers shipped roughly 90 million Android units during the quarter, compared to roughly 82 million Windows PCs. Meeker expects that by the end of 2013 more than 160 million Android devices will be shipped in a single quarter, compared to 100 million Windows devices and 80 million iOS devices.
