Amazon is making its ubiquitous online marketplace even more attractive by offering free shipping on small orders — even for costumers who aren’t subscribed to
According to Bloomberg, “items covered by the new shipping offer weigh 8 ounces (230 grams) or less and usually cost no more than $10.” These deliveries will ship within 4-8 business days from a new location in Florence, Kentucky specifically stocked for these kinds of orders. The program itself has been named “Fulfillment by Amazon Small and Light.”
The program started on a trail basis 13 weeks ago, but went live for everyone on Amazon.com this Monday. The world of online shopping only gets more competitive with each passing year. If Amazon wants to stay on top, it’s going to have to continue fighting back with offers that will incentivize purchases from its storefront.
“Customers love that even if it’s a $5 item, shipping is free for everybody, Prime member or not,” Neil Ackerman, a senior manager at Amazon, said in an interview. “Customers love it and sellers love it.”
