Adaptive Path chimes in on Mozilla Phone concept with Aurora browser

Well folks, we have good news and bad news. The bad news is that Mozilla has clarified what many miscontrued from a post earlier this week. We all knew the Mozilla Phone concept Billy May showed off last week was simply a throw away but what many didn’t catch from the wording of the post, quite understandably, is that the entire project is a throw away for the time being. It was simply a part of Mozilla’s Concept Series and for the time being, Mozilla has no plans to manufacture a handset. Boo. The good news however, is that Mozilla is definitely not completely dismissing the idea of slapping a crowd-sourced phone and OS together at some point:

While Mozilla doesn’t have plans to produce an OS or phone hardware at the moment — this doesn’t mean that either are out of scope for Mozilla Labs and that’s the point of the Concept Series. Everything is on the table.

It is what is it, we suppose. That said, Adaptive Path recently threw its two cents in yesterday and contributed details surrounding its concept for a mobile web browser dubbed Aurora. In the video, Adaptive Path highlights an example of processes that can allow a mobile phone to interact with the “physical environment” through web-based services. In the example, a man snaps a quick photo of a product he is considering as a gift and using a recognition service accessed via his mobile web browser, the man is immediately able to see product information and reviews.
