Stranger Things Netflix Preview Video

As if you didn’t have enough entertainment to keep you preoccupied this month already, Netflix has an intriguing original series launching tomorrow called Stranger Things. We shared the first trailer for the series a little over a month ago, but on the eve of the show’s launch, Netflix has shared the first eight minutes of the pilot on YouTube. And they’re definitely worth watching.

Created by brothers Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, Stranger Things is set in 1983 and follows the denizens of Hawkins, Indiana as they try to figure out why a young boy named Will Byers vanished into thin air. In the opening scene, we see Byers and his friends gathered around a table in basement playing Dungeons & Dragons, shortly before the titular “stranger things” begin happening:

Reviews for the first season have been consistently positive, praising the show for its nostalgic bent and the warmth with which it treats its characters. Vanity Fair says it’s “assured, inventive, satisfying, and compulsively watchable,” while AV Club goes so far as to call it “2016’s show of the summer.”

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, watching Stranger Things might not be a bad idea. All eight episodes will be available to stream on Netflix starting this Friday, July 15th.
